Every year before Christmas on the Ellen Degeneres show, Ellen has twelve special days where she showers her guest audience with gifts and prizes. It’s called Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways and it’s almost like an extended, yet cheaper, version of how the great Oprah used to do have special giveaways.
Ellen also loves tricks and surprises, so she doesn’t just say, ‘Ok, time to give you guys stuff,’ there’s a build up or fake out every time. On a recent episode, Ellen read a letter from a fan who wanted to propose to his girlfriend who was in the audience. But when he finally says, “I want you to marry me,” she just sobs, “I can’t, I’m sorry.”
Instantly, the familiar giveaway music starts, and the audience quickly get to their feet cheering. At the last moment, you can even see the ‘proposer’ laughing as well as Ellen. The entire scene is of course a fake out, but many Internet users who aren’t regular viewers of Ellen think it’s real. It isn’t, so don’t worry, and merry Christmas.
