Even after her viral apology video, Paula Deen has been dropped by the Food Network and other media companies. But while on Conan, comedian Bill Burr noted that this is just standard operating procedure.
“It’s like she’s in the penalty box,” he said, noting that many other celebs have lost sponsorship for saying and doing worse, only to be picked up in by a new company in a matter of weeks.
“She’s a $100 million whale. That’s a gambling thing. She’ll make you a $100 million. She’s just sitting on the beach, and they have to figure out what is the acceptable amount of time after someone says the n-word that you can bring them back on TV to make cookies.”
