Have you ever seen a Facebook page that seemed to have tens of thousands of Likes for no apparent reason?
The page most likely paid for those Likes, either legitimately through Facebook ads or illegitimately through click farms in developing countries.
But Veritasium has noticed a problem. Even the ‘legitimate’ Likes that he paid for on his page don’t seem that real at all as the engagement from them is nearly zero.
He’s uncovered some unnerving Facebook fraud.
For example, the US State Department spent $630,000 of tax payer money on Facebook advertising to acquire two million Likes. Problem is, they only average 2% user engagement.
It’s almost like a virtual Enron situation.
He closes with a powerful statement that would chill any Facebook stock owner if word gets out. “Advertising on Facebook is a waste of money.”
